Hi I'm Scott. I'm Todd. We're here to talk to you about the DVD release of the movie 300. A great action film as far as action films go. Yes very much so. Not an intensely scripted [Todd: Cerebral film] or plotted but excellent as far as pure action. It's got an incredibly interesting visual array of things for you to check out. They've got the enemies of the 300 the Spartans that are defending their homeland. They've got a bevy of different deformities coming after them. The weird thing about the film for me was that it seemed like it was about the perfect people which the Spartans were supposed to be versus the deformed or disabled because almost all of the members of the opposing army has some type of deformity. I mean all of the guys the right the Spartans are all completely shaved ripped abs right? And instead of like a vampire movie where the biting is the piercing [Scott: The stabbing and piercing.] the stabbing is the standing for sex. Okay hold on. I think maybe you got something on the brain [Todd: I maybe but no dude.] but it did. It's all about how butch can you be and I will stab you with my sword. There was certainly an aspect of that. You know and they've all got their little bikini on right? And there is this repetitive mechanical [Todd: Sure] block with the shields thrust with the spear [Todd: Yeah.] and this repetitive almost sexual kind of The violence is the stand in for sex essentially and the aggressive kind of hyperbutch [Scott: But] not really. They're all shaved. Have you ever seen a Greek guy in a Speedo? They're not shaved. They're furry and look like kind of an ape. How do you know what Greek guys in Speedos look like? You've never taken a cruise? Okay. Right and he's got perfect abs. Or shaved like a hairless cat. It's unbelievable. Okay yeah. They all are walking around like hairless cats with cape. Like these are Greek guys? Come on. The cape. Come on. Overall for as far as action movies go I'd say good action. I'd say one star. I'd probably have to give it two or three star I'd say three stars. I'd go thumbs down. I'd go straight across the board because it's an interesting and watchable film. But I'm Todd. But otherwise I'm Scott. This is our review.

Summary
Like Sin City before it, 300 brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler ( Beowulf and Grendel , The Phantom of the Opera ) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads 300 of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham of The Lord of the Rings , Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae. More engaging than Troy , the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable to Sin City in that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder ( Dawn of the Dead ) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge, 300 delivers. --David Horiuchi
