All right this is my review of my new camera. It s a PowerShot SD1000. It s part of the Canon Digital Elph series. I used to have an old PowerShot S500 I believe which was a great camera. However it was about an inch and a half thick or so maybe about an inch thick. This one as you can see super small in comparison to that one. It s a decent size but they ve made their cameras a lot smaller now. The thing that I like about this camera if you turn it around huge LCD screen which is really nice especially in this day and age when no one wants to look through a tiny viewfinder but it still does have the viewfinder which is nice if you re taking like macro shots or something like that that you need to get close up. So I guess I ll just run down a few of the functions. You got your camera mode here you got the movie mode here and then the viewing mode which is pretty standard on all Canon cameras. It also has a nice manual mode which the other Canons do as well. This button is if you have a Canon printer you can just print your pictures right from the camera. Let s see here here s the AV slot. It s on the side. And then that little USB slot or FireWire is to transfer pictures. It s USB sorry not FireWire. Here is the card and the battery memory card and battery. To get the battery out you just push this little red thing it comes out a rechargeable battery obviously 3.7 L-ion lithium ion and then it takes SD memory cards. I have a 2-Gigabyte card in here and depending on the mode that you re using with the camera resolution and all that you can fit quite a bit of pictures on a 2-Gig card or even a 1-Gig card is fine. And I believe it comes with like a 32 megabyte card which you can still fit some pictures on but not a ton that the average would use. Let s see here what else? The power button is on top right here. Let s turn it on. It s on the camera mode. I don t know if you can see that very well. So down here it shows how many pictures you have left and then the mode is up here the camera and then M3 is the size S is super fine and that s the quality and Canon for the most part hasn t changed a ton with what they have on their cameras. I ll just show you the menu. This one does have a couple of new features that I like. Let s see here Function so on the bottom here you can see these are all different menus that it has digital macro night snapshots so if you got night color accent is one that I actually use quite a bit. Color swap allows you to pick a color and then you can change the color. You can swap it with something else. So let s just say you take a picture of a red bus you can find something else that s blue and then everything that s red you can change to that blue color. So then if you went to the end of this menu you can actually hit menu again and it will allow you to go to a couple of more modes. We got snow beach fireworks which is cool. If you take pictures of the 4th of July or just any fireworks in general you can get really nice fireworks snapshots. And the aquarium is nice too if you go to like an aquarium perhaps a zoo and then underwater so you wouldn t really use this unless you have the other underwater container that you can buy for the camera. And then indoor and then kids and pets are all the other menu items and foliage I missed that sorry. And then so say you want one of these I ll just pick kids and pets you just hit menu and then once you go back to that menu it ll be the last menu option on the bottom there. Color accent is really neat too. Say you wanted to shoot an orange cat. You would select orange so you would select color accent you would push display to select the color. So if you guys can see that little square box in the middle of the screen you would point it at the orange color that you wanted and then select that. Then when you want to take a picture all that would show up would be the orange that would be in color. Everything else would be in black and white. This is really nice for like if you have say you re taking a picture of a little girl with like red hair and red lipstick. All that s gonna show up in red is going to be her lipstick and her hair. Everything else is gonna be in black and white which is really cool and a lot of people like to use it. That s probably one of my favorite options on this camera. Other than it s pretty small I ll show you in comparison so here s for example we have a credit card. The credit card is the same size as this camera. However it s obviously thicker but it s the same physical size footprint as the credit card. So I actually really like this camera. The time that it takes you on my old Canon if you were to take a picture it would take quite a bit of time from when I push the button to when it actually took the picture. With this one it takes hardly any time at all. You would click the button and it takes the picture. This is a super nice camera huge LCD screen a lot of cool modes super small take it anywhere the battery charger. So this is the battery charger that comes with the camera. The camera also comes with software and a cable a USB cable to hook into your computer. So this also in comparison to the camera the same size pretty slim. The cool thing about this is it s got the collapsible prongs that you can plug in. This is also pretty nice pretty small easy to pack up and take with you. I actually give this a five out of five the PowerShot SD1000 from Canon. It s a great camera super nice and really small.
