A review of Prismacolor professional grade colored pencils.

Hi everyone my name is Mike and today I'd like to show you Prismacolor Colored Pencils. They're professional grade colored pencils that you can buy at any art store either a open stock or one at a time for about a dollar apiece or in sets of varying amounts from twelve to a hundred and twenty some. I have here a set of 72 and it cost me $50 on sale. It retails for about 90. And that might seem pretty steep for a set of color pencils. But like I said these are professional grade compared to the kind that you'd find in a grocery store, which are student grade. The ones in the grocery store, the student grade ones, are more wax than pigment and pigment is color. In the professional grade you have more pigment than wax and that translates into a few things. The professional grade ones are more rich in color, they're more vibrant. They lay down a lot smoother and they're easy, more easy to blend. Now that's characteristics you'll want if you're doing artwork or stuff like that. If you're just doodling or doing small little stuff you'll probably find that the grocery store student brand ones, student grade ones are more appropriate for what you're doing. The Prismacolors all the sets if you buy them in a set come in these little tins and the tins are nice and compact and a nice way to transfer the colored pencils from here to there. On the back of the tin it tells you what colors are included in this set and when I opened the tin I found three trays of twenty four. They gave me 72 the trays are kind of sorted in colors; here's like grays and some, some neon colors here at the bottom. The other tray has more of the earth tones, some browns and some purples and stuff, and the last tray has some greens and blues and yellows and some of your primary colors. It also has some Art sticks, which is Prismacolors new product and a pencil sharpener incase you don't have one and you need one to sharpen the unsharpened pencils. They all come unsharpened so keep that in mind you'll have to sharpen them all before you use them. The pencil's like I said they're very nice; they're very rich. There's more pigment in them so they lay down smooth. The outside of the pencil is exactly the color of the pencil on white paper; that's exactly how it will look when you lay it down. They're acid free, which means their archival would last a long time. They're waterproof; they won't run and stuff. They're blendable which means you can use paint thinner or something or a swab and use tissue paper and blend stuff. And you'll get a mix of colors and stuff for kind of like a painterly effect. I really like the Prismacolor brands. I really haven't had any problems with the pencils. The one downside to them is if you drop them because the lead is so soft it's more pigment than wax, if you drop them on to any hard surface, the lead inside will break and then when you go and sharpen it, it will just crumble and the pencil's worthless. Also sometimes the pencil's have some hard spots in their midst and it's like gritty and it scratches the paper and messes up stuff. It's, it's a rare thing in these pencils, but it does happen; if you just call the company, they'll send you out a new pencil of the same color. And it's, it's just a mistake that happens and they're pretty good about it. All the pencils are labeled; you can see here there's a number, that's the number of the color. So if you want to order more of a specific color, if you use one more than the other you know which color to buy. And it also lists the name of the color also, so you can buy that by name rather than number. Like I said they're, they're pretty steep for the price, but if you're doing something that you need good quality pencils, I highly recommend them they're Prismacolor colored pencils.
