Hello I am here today to review this product with you. It is the D-Link wireless router model number DI-524. It performs fairly well for your basic home network. But for power users such as myself I am really not pleased with this functionality. It doesn't compare to other products put out by Linksys. And when you take into consideration all the things that a router should be capable of doing. And this one doesn't perform quite as well as it tends to drop the wireless signal quite frequently. It needs to be reset quite often. And it just doesn't perform very well compared to some of its competitors in the market. However I got it at a good price. So I am using it and it performs fairly well enough for basic home network user. If you it turns around you can see in more details the functionality on the back. Over here we have just the standard plug that provides the power for this unit. The next port over is the one port. That is your wide area network port that is used to connect say your cable modem or to a wide area network. That is what WAN stands for. And then you also have these four ports right here that you can use to connect wired devices to say desktop laptop computer or say a network printer or something to that nature anything that uses a CATV cable and that is on the TCP The router does have DHCP addressing and so that is an automatic addressing feature that allows the TCP So you can just plug it in and go plug and play of you will. Also here on the far side you can see the antenna that is used for the wireless transfer. The wireless mode is fairly good. I have used it quite extensively in my home in my own home and it does a very good job. You can use the security functionality of WPA the WPA PSK using pretty short keys and things of that nature. It also transmits in both 802.11b and g modes. And so you can use it for both those newer and older wireless devices. Here on the front you can see it has some different display whites. It has got your power light your status light your WAN your wireless LAN light and of course your standard one two three four port lights all indicating that there is activity going on that the power is on that the status is good and things of that nature. The router did come with a CD software CD that you can use to easily access the router form your computer using software. And it also has the capability to administrate it via your web browser which I have the tendency to do quite often. And it performs well in both circumstances. Like I said though it just doesn't compare to Linksys or other more competitive router applications. But if you are looking for just a basic home network router and get it at a good price check out the D-Link wireless router model number DI-524.
