They say you should always wear a respirator while using most spray-paints. I believe there's a Canadian company right now putting out a brand that's safe to breath, but it'll be a long time before Colorplace follows suit, since they're the cheapest out there. I'll admit I don't always take proper precaution, but I don't smoke so I don't worry about it too much.
Short answer: get a respirator and thank yourself in 20 years.
