Does Brain Age really help 'train' your brain or is it just a gimmick?

I haven't seen a vast improvement in intelligence or anything, but if anything it does keep you sharp. Games are pretty simple pick up and play, the best example I can give is the addition game, which gives you a group of addition problems and you see how fast you can do it. While it's not necessarily something that will help you learn calculus, I did notice an improvement in how fast I could crunch basic problems.

If you have parents or friends that aren't often challenged with simple things like this, let them try it. It's surprising how addicting adding can be.

I do think they help you out. They help your quick-ness, keep you using those simple things you learned when you were a child. And if you have children this is a great item because it helps them practice their addition, multiplication etc which is all lots of fun!

I agree with the other answers -the games help keep you sharp and quick!

The more you use and challenge your brain the better it will be. You already know all the answers but if you aren't using the information, it's harder to get to. Playing this game improoves instant recall. Muscles become more efficient when they are exercised, so does your brain.

I would play the difficult level math problems game in the morning to wake my brain up for the day. I believe there's some study out there somewhere that showed that warming up your brain with little tasks like these can really help improve your productivity throughout the day.

I wouldn't say it 'trains' your brain. It simply makes you ready to do those sorts of problems and quizzes in the game. It does 'warm up' your brain, just like any problem-solving or reading activity might. Fun game, but it won't train you.

Any kind of work like that, in my opinion, trains your brain. I sometimes play it before work where I have to do a lot of basic maths and I notice that I'm getting quicker at problem solving. Not that alone will do it but it certainly helps!
