Transcript of Featured Review

Hey Expo TV. This is Obs84. And today I am going to be reviewing the movie Drillbit Taylor which is currently in theaters. This stars Owen Wilson and he is an ex-military guy who is currently hiring himself out as a security guard just to make some money or a bodyguard if you will. And this movie is about a group of kids in school who are being bullied and they scrapped together a few dollars. And it turns out that they can afford to hire Owen Wilson s character to protect them from the bullies of the playground and you know as they get to from school and everything like that. Now Owen Wilson is one of my favorite actors. I think he is great. He has done all kinds of very good movies like Wedding Crashers and things like that where it is very funny. Obviously this movie isn t as funny because you don t have a great supporting cast around him. When this movie Drillbit Taylor where you got Owen Wilson and a group of kids and kind of their all day interactions. And you know I love kids and everything is good with that but you know they are not as funny actors as you know some of the big names that Owen Wilson has been with like Vince Vaughn or Ben Stiller or you know funny guys who are professional comedians. So being that he does not have a great supporting cast around him the movie is not as good as it could ve been. However for what you are working with Owen Wilson and just a bunch of kids I think it is great. He definitely makes the most of all the scenes. It is kind of a lot funny humor with him hurting himself or hurting somebody else or the kids not being able to do what he asks for self-defense kinds of things like that. A lot of bathroom humor. There is profanity. I didn t see any sexual content side from the young guys just staring at good looking women. But that is not that bad. I know sex scenes or anything like that. I really liked that there was some profanity in this. I think if there wasn t any it would be lacking in realism. Now be it as it may realistic in some of their interactions obviously no group of kids with a handful of dollars can afford to hire them a guard to protect them from bullies. I mean it just doesn t happen in real life. However if you put that aside hilarious movie. I want to give it four out of five stars. I would definitely see this one in theaters. The sound track is really good. It got some actions scenes in there and some situational comedy where the music really adds to it. I think the big surround sound system in your theater will add to that. Again four out of five stars. Go see this one if you like Owen Wilson and if you like good funny movie.

Summary
Like Owen Wilson himself, Drillbit Taylor has a loose, shaggy-dog appeal. Wilson plays a homeless ex-soldier who wants to emigrate illegally to Canada--and when three misfit high-school students hire him to protect them from bullies, he sets out to fleece them for the money he needs to get away. Naturally, this being a formulaic crowd-pleaser, he bonds with the kids and discovers that maybe his life isn't so worthless after all. Fortunately for moviegoers, the creators of Drillbit Taylor (including co-writer Seth Rogen, star of Knocked Up ) have the wit to tweak the formula and give what could have been prefabricated and bland some grit, surprises, and genuine laughs (as well as an allusion to this movie's obvious inspiration, the 1980 teen-movie classic My Bodyguard ). While nowhere near as funny (or as rude) as Rogen's previous co-writing effort, the dorkily sublime Superbad , Drillbit Taylor benefits from a similar grasp of the genuine cravings and frustrations of adolescence. Still, it's Wilson's movie, and his slacker-romantic rhythm gives the hmor its swing. Also featuring Leslie Mann ( The 40-Year-Old Virgin ), who is woefully underutilized as Wilson's love interest. One sneaky bit of casting: The main bully is played by Alex Frost, who played an unhappy teen driven to shoot up his school in director Gus Van Sant's Elephant . --Bret Fetzer
