Hi I ll be reviewing the Hamilton Beach Portfolio Drinkmaster. As you can see here it s a very diner-y-looking drink mixer. I ve only used it for milkshakes but you can use it to mix pretty much whatever drink you want. How it works you have this cup I m sure you ve seen that before or brought to your table with a milkshake or something in it in a restaurant and this little stirrer that you just pop right in there and the switch is right on the top you lower the head into the cup and it has two speeds that it mixes on kind of fast and very fast and this just spins around and mixes whatever drink you have. With milkshakes it s been fairly effective. I ve had my share of problems with it. For one thing if you look at this it s this small little wavy piece of plastic that when you look at it you wouldn t really think it d be that effective in mixing drinks and the truth is it s really not that effective. To really get things mixing you know start ice cream mixing into milk and everything I found instead of just putting the cup up there and leaving it since the propeller wing comes down to around there and really get things going you can start at the top you have to pull the cup down there and you really have to work it. It's not something you just leave on and come back in a few minutes and your drink is done. But once things get moving and once things are starting to mix up then it does a really good job of keeping it going and finishing the mixing job for you. You have to be careful if you re lifting it and playing with it. You can actually hit the bottom of the cup with the bottom of this which is metal so I ve got nice sort of little wiggly scratches inside here but it's not too bad. It s mainly cosmetic. I mean who really looks down at the bottom of their cups anyway? The engine can struggle a little bit with thicker foods like more frozen ice cream. It s not too bad. It starts to make rumbling noises and shake around on the counter. It s more annoying than anything else. I think if you kept it up for too long then you might start causing damage but as long as you re smart about it and you kind of move it and save it and get it out of trouble before it really strains itself too much you should be okay. I haven t had any problems with it failing so far and I ve had it for a while so it works pretty well. I enjoy it. Just know you ll have to put some work into it. It doesn t take all the work out of the automated food stuff but once you get things going and once you get used to it you can really mix up drinks in a jiffy.
