Hi this is Dan with my review of Windows Vista Business Edition 32 bit. This is the newest latest and greatest from Microsoft. Let me tell you you re going to need a behemoth machine to run this in good form. We just upgraded our Pentium 4 3GHTZ computers with 2 gig of RAM and basically get the performance that we did on XP with 1 gig RAM. The reason for this is that Windows Vista has a new polished Aero interface. Aero is a cool interface. It offers 3D effects such as Glass which allows you to see translucent windows or different layers in the operating system and within its interface. It also has Flip 3D which allows you to toggle through various windows flipping through each window and also seeing live motion or video inside each of those windows through Alt-Tab or Windows Tab. This also has new features including instant searches. The instant searches allow you to find files and folders marked in a pre-index sort. The new controls inside of Windows add a layer of added security with user account controls. As far a Windows Vista goes it is very stable if you have the machine to run it. To run it with the Aero interphase you will need at least a graphics card with 256 meg of memory and a 3D card usually from vendors such as ATI or INVIDIA. Windows Vista offers rolled out new versions of Windows Media Player 11 and also Internet Explorer 7. These are also downloadable for current XP2 genuine users and is a nice upgrade in stability with Tab browsing for Internet Explorer 7 and also a slicker interphase for Windows Media Player 11 as we rolled out. The new Picture Viewer is also available in Windows Vista. It allows you to scale and zoom and crop and edit and basically view your pictures much like Google s Picasso. It is built into the operating system which is nice and previewing those with a moving slideshow is also an added feature. One downside of Windows Vista is that it does take a lot of idle resources. Even with the system on idle I constantly have my 3D card band worrying in the background as it is busy calculating the requirements necessary to perform the Aero background interface and cool 3D effects. This can be a power hog and also a noise nuisance for those of you that are looking for the ultra-quiet PC experience. One trade-off to that is that power up and power down experiences are much quicker in Windows Vista compared to XP and I find that general stability surprisingly is much better whereas I had more system crashes and application crashes. To date I have not had any crashes for two to three weeks which is very impressive for Windows to say the least. The one downside of that is that Vista does come at a pretty hefty price tag of upwards to $200 and $300. If you have it already great. It s an opportunity for you to learn a lot of the new features and utilize Windows Vista to your advantage and to your enjoyment but until then for the most part I would recommend holding off on Windows Vista until maybe your next PC upgrade or until OEM prices are more readily available and your PC spending budget for upgrades is a little bigger. This is the Business Edition that I am reviewing which is equivalent to the XP Pro version. Most of the new features will go unnoticed as a lot of features are geared towards the business end but as far as overall product compatibility there are many users that report a lot of driver conflicts as third party vendors have not finished developing their software drivers for a lot of the hardware out there. So I would recommend personally a wait-and-see approach. If you are not too keen on upgrading your system and also your hardware to meet and accommodate the needs of Vista to get equal or power performance to what you would get in XP I would wait for at least a service pack one that will inevitably come for Windows Vista a couple of months down the road. This is Dan and this is my review of Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition for 32 bit systems.
