Press Pass the inside scoop on the latest and the greatest direct from the tradeshow floor. Hi I'm Jen Cody with Expo TV. We're here at CES 2008 in fabulous Las Vegas and I am talking to Steve at Nikon about the much anticipated and very exciting D3. It's here I can touch it exciting. Tell us about it. Steve: Jen this is an awesome camera. We have been waiting for this for a long time and a lot of professional photographers have been waiting for this for a long time. This is our first camera with what we're calling an FX size sensor which is practically the same size as a piece of 35-mm film so it takes all our regular NIKKOR lenses. It also has provision to accept all of our DX NIKKOR lenses because it has an automatic cropping feature in the camera. It goes to an amazing nine frames per second. It also has the ability to shoot to 6400 ISO. Here's another great feature: this camera has a live view feature that allows you to actually see the image previewed on the LCD screen before you shoot the photograph so for difficult situations where you can't get close to the ground or you're holding the camera over your head you can now actually see the image on the LCD screen prior to actually taking the photograph and in fact talk about extreme I can actually take this camera I can attach a Wi-Fi pack to this and I can send that preview to a laptop where I can totally control this camera remotely using Wi-Fi as well. Jen Cody: So you're tethered but on untethered? Steve: Untethered. Jen Cody: Right. So you're doing that wirelessly? Steve: Absolutely. Jen Cody: That's a great feature. Can you show us the speed that you mentioned earlier? You said nine frames a second? Steve: Yup let me Jen Cody: I know we'd love to see that. Steve: This will -- Jen Cody: That is nine frames a second. Steve: It will actually even go to 11 frames per second in the DX crop mode too so it'll go even faster than that and it's automatic so all you have to do is attach the lens and it automatically detects that it's a DX NIKKOR lens and automatically crops for you. Jen Cody: Fantastic. Steve: This is a virtual horizon indicator that actually allows you to level the camera so if you're on a tripod and you need to make sure it's absolutely level this will tell you when you're absolutely level. It's incredibly well built. It's all weather sealed so you can take this off be in the worst environments very battery economical thousands of pictures on a single charge using the existing battery system from the D2X and D2XS too so it's totally compatible with those batteries. Jen Cody: And this is released it was announced in August and released in late November or early December is when it started coming into stores and what's the retail price on this? Steve: This is $4 999. Jen Cody: That extra dollar off that keeps you from saying $5 000 makes it sound so much more affordable. Steve: Yes but of course yeah. Jen Cody: Of course. Excellent. Well thank you. This is the D3. It's a great camera. Thanks for showing us. Steve: Thank you.
