Saab’s attractive interpretation of a greener future vehicle might not be entirely impossible to produce. Elements of its Saab 9-X Bio Hybrid, E85-capable, powertrain could eventually see production.

Fresh Pack the inside scoops on the latest and the greatest direct from Trade Show floor. Hi I am Adam Barrera for Expo TV at the New York International Auto Show. We are going to talk to Steve Shannon about this Saab 9X Bio Hybrid concept. Wow It certainly looks like a Saab. Yeah Adam it is every bit a Saab. A lot of people want a smaller car that are fuel economy but still have the premium-ness of the European entry luxury cars. This is kind of the Saab expression. Every bit of Saab what a car would look like small and efficient yet really cool looking. But the 9X is obviously not just as a design exercise that is actually a research car. I mean bio hybrid. Talk to us about what this means. Yeah you know this has just a really pretty incredible engine and power train and here is the starting point. We have really optimized the engine to burn 85 Ethanol. And for those who that maybe know one of the benefits of 85 Ethanol that it has higher octane so we purposely downsized this engine to a 1.4-liter. But we take advantage of our expertise and turbo-charged it. With the 85 we can actually make two horse-power out of this very small engine that behaves and gets good fuel economy like a small engine. Turbo-charged to give you more power and then on top of that the icing on the cake is we added this terrific next-generation GM hybrid system with lithium In batteries. So when you are just launching from the start or you are doing some aggressive acceleration you get the batteries to kick in with your electric motor. So up to 45 miles per gallon and still a very fun-to-drive package just sticking to the whole Saab USA theme. We love to have something like this in the show. We have a few more important things between now and then. But this is going to be our next in our priority list. Okay Steve we will be back to you next time. Adam it is great to be with you.
