I go a little crazy with my costumes... Last year's was a multilayer stylistic kimono based off of the Japanese water dragon, Seiryu. Since I was going for a flowing watercolor painting effect at first, the bottom layer is huge. It has a full circle skirt with flowing floor-length sleeves. I didn't use a pattern for any of it as I kind of made up the design as I went. Many of the fabrics (such as the white brocade) had to be imported from Japan and China. I cut and styled the wig into the double bun seen and made the attached crown out of sculpy. The entire project took about 40 yards of fabric and over 150 hours to complete. It's terribly impractical, but when you want to make a statement, REALLY make a statement! And no... I couldn't walk terribly well XD Here are a few pictures... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/Ari-chan/EBKSoh-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/Ari-chan/AWA2157.jpg

hi everyone i was invited to a costume contest at our local Faternal Order of MooseLodge at the last minute. Ireally didnt have anything towear but a scrub outfit. So i took a large sharpie and wrote coroner across the back in large letters then on front in smaller letters i wrote DR. J. Medical Examiner. but it still needed something more. I had a pair of teeth fangs that i glued on, and that gave it a little suspense. won second place in the contest and it cost only $3.00 bucks. yeah me.

The most creative costume I ever wore was very last minute and also the easiest to make. Last year I was invited to a party on the day of the party. I went as "White Trash". I wore a white t-shirt and white pants that I already owned, and strung white colored objects onto some yarn as a scarf to wrap around me. I used any and all white colored, light weight objects I could find around my house like coffee filters, paper cups, cotton balls, plastic bags, plastic utensils, ear swabs etc. My friends thought my costume was hysterical and I actually won the "most creative" prize at the party!!

A few years ago, two friends and I dressed up like the California Raisins. We cut armholes out of black garbage bags, put those over our black pants and shirts, wore bow ties, sunglasses and sneakers! So easy and fun!

Homemade costumes are so much more fun. I tried to make the 'shower costume' from Karate Kid last year -- it started to come out really nicely, however then I realized I needed to take a cab into the city and I just wouldn't fit!
