Hi, today I'll be reviewing the game Tetris DS for the Nintendo DS handheld system. Tetris DS is an actual compilation of several different puzzle games all related to the original Tetris. In fact there are 6 game modes and various rule settings, which allows a great depth for this particular game. If you are not familiar with the original Tetris game it's essentially a puzzle game in which different shaped blocks fall from the top of the game grid and you attempt to arrange them into solid lines as quickly as possible to prevent the game grid from filling up. Tetris DS remains pretty close to its original formula except with the note of a key, few key additions including the use of items and the ability to hold certain pieces for use later. As I mentioned Tetris DS features 6 new game modes and my personal favorite being the new push game mode in which you actually compete against either another human player or the computer playing Tetris using the same game grid. Two of the game modes of Tetris DS actually incorporate the Nintendo DS technology very well as they use the touch screen and stylus pen for their puzzles. These puzzles are actually slightly different from the original Tetris game, but are still fun and feature the original Tetris blocks. What really makes Tetris DS stand out from other Tetris games in the past and Tetris games on other platforms is the fact that it uses Nintendo music and themes. Specifically each mode features a different theme based on an old Nintendo game from the 8-bit Nintendo era. This really adds a lot of nostalgia factor for those of us who grew up playing the old Nintendo entertainment system. However one of the drawbacks of this presentation style is that because each mode features theme music from that particular game, the original Tetris music is missing from Tetris DS. Of course the best part of Tetris DS is the multi player capabilities. You can both play over a local wireless or WiFi and play against people all over the world. Most of the Tetris game modes supports multi player up to 10 players cooperatively or competitively. The best part of the local wireless game for Tetris DS is that you actually only need one Tetris DS card and you could play up to 10 people on a local wireless connection. Tetris DS is rated E for everyone. It's a great puzzle game. I recommend it for everyone who's interested in puzzle solving and multi player games.
