It grinds and squeezes at the same time, so the juice goes in one side (out the spout) and the fibers (rind, etc) get caught in a strainer. You throw out the fibers after you use the machine. In my video I think I show how dry the fibers are. Cheaper machines will have juice still in the fibers and they'll come out wet, meaning you missed squeezing out all that fruity goodness!
To add to what Daphnekh said, you can actually save the fibers and bake them into muffins or other foods to get full use. Most the vitamins are in those fibers so it's good not to waste them.
