can you play ps2 games on the newer 80 gb ps3?

No. You cannot play PS2 games on the newer 80 GB PS3.

You can on the PS3 that came with the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle and on the 80GB Motorstorm bundle.

Brett, check your facts:

As of August of last year, the PS3s with PS2 compatability are OUT OF PRODUCTION. You can still find the backward compatable machines if you look for them.

Karla, you should be able to play PlayStation 1 games on any PS3 console.

the answer is no. you can play PS2 games on the older 80GB PS3 and the 60GB but not on any of the newer consoles im sorry :/

Unfortunately on the 80GB- the answer is NO. The 60GB is the only model I am aware of and they no longer manufacture it.

Nope. The 60 gig and 202 gig were the only ones. You can still find them on ebay or some site like that. But you cannot buy them new. Currently they offer the 80 and 120 gig.
