Yes, it is rear-facing. I think that all infant carriers are required to be. Once you have the base in the car, this seat very easily pops in and out.
Its rear faceing only. Graco only makes a few that go from 5-40 lbs. Mostly they want you to buy the rear facing that last until around 20lbs and then upgrade to the 20-40lbs. So really, it all depends on what you are looking for, and how fast you plan on having your next child. We knew we would were going to try again after a year, so we bought both. But if you are going to wait a while before having another kiddo, you migh want to invest in one that holds 5-40 (should last you around two years probably more). Either way, we still have this car seat, and plan on using it again!!!
Yes it is rear facing, which is what you'll need until your child is AT LEAST 12 months old. Although, depending on your child's size, you may want them to switch to a rear facing car seat that can be flipped around to front facing when they get old enough. These ones are usually a little bigger, and more roomy for larger babies. Plus, my arm has almost been falling off after dragging my baby and her snug ride carrier!!
