If you want a good action film this is the one to see. A great cast of soon to be superstars in a great story set during WWII.

Transcript of Featured Review

Hello I'm Michael Ann welcome to Laser Light here on ExpoTV. The DVD up on your screen and end up for review is. The Dirty Dozen. There has been a lot of stories and film history about a group of rejects and psychopaths brought together to perform an impossible mission. None of them had been done as well as The Dirty Dozen and I believe that's demonstrate in the fact that this movie spent over 1 and that's the real strong point because [inaudible] 00:34 are just cross over that and we really won't identify with the characters. You can do as you are told in which case you might just get fine. You must not attempt to escape. There will be no excuses there were will no appeal. Any breach of either of these conditions by anyone of you means that you are all be shipped right back here for immediate execution of sentence. You are there for dependent upon each other. Anyone of you trying anything smart and I truly you got it right in the head right? The story of The Dirty Dozen is the story of the 12 convicts in miliary prison. They have two choices there. They can serve all of their life sentences or they can wait to be executed and then they are given a third choice. They can leave prison train and go on a suicide mission. Do they accept? Do they succeed? You have to watch this DVD to find out and you enjoy watching this DVD. One of the strongest points of this DVD is in fact its casts. A lot of the members of these casts were not quite superstars yet but this movie may have forced the majority of them all for the top. Charles Bronson Telly Savalas and Donald Sutherland were just ready to break out while Lee Marvin and Earnest Borgnine were already recognized superstars. This DVD looks pretty good although it's not perfect. The audio and video quality are very good. So stereo mixed spot there's not really a lot of need for any back speakers on this one. This is a terrific movie and if it's a genre of military movie this probably ranked on the top 5 of all time and I'm going to give it 5 stars. You really need to see this movie if you like war movies or if you want to see just a great story and some great acting. And let's not forget Jim Brown. He does a terrific job in this movie as well. I'm going to go back and I'm going to watch some and I'll see you at my next review. Thank you.

Summary
A model for dozens of action films to follow, this box-office hit from 1967 refined a die-hard formula that has become overly familiar, but it's rarely been handled better than it was in this action-packed World War II thriller. Lee Marvin is perfectly cast as a down-but-not-out army major who is offered a shot at personal and professional redemption. If he can successfully train and discipline a squad of army rejects, misfits, killers, prisoners, and psychopaths into a first-rate unit of specialized soldiers, they'll earn a second chance to make up for their woeful misdeeds. Of course, there's a catch: to obtain their pardons, Marvin's band of badmen must agree to a suicide mission that will parachute them into the danger zone of Nazi-occupied France. It's a hazardous path to glory, but the men have no other choice than to accept and regain their lost honor. What makes The Dirty Dozen special is its phenomenal cast including Charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas, George Kennedy, Ernest Borgnine, John Cassavetes, Richard Jaeckel, Jim Brown, Clint Walker, Trini Lopez, Robert Ryan, and others. Cassavetes is the Oscar-nominated standout as one of Marvin's most rebellious yet heroic men, but it's the whole ensemble--combined with the hard-as-nails direction of Robert Aldrich--that makes this such a high-velocity crowd pleaser. The script by Nunnally Johnson and Lukas Heller (from the novel by E.M. Nathanson) is strong enough to support the all-star lineup with ample humor and military grit, so if you're in need of a mainline jolt of testosterone, The Dirty Dozen is the movie for you. --Jeff Shannon
