From MGM [inaudible] midnight movies collection comes a double featured disk that is not for the squeamish The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake concerns a curse put upon the Drake family. And poor Jonathan is next in line a word of warning this movie depicts step by step lessons from how to shrink the human head. Veteran nasty man Henry Daniel and his Zombie henchmen are behind the foul deeds pursued by detective Grant Richards and Jonathan's lovely daughter played by Valerie French. Edward France is suitable downcast and distraught as the accursed Jonathan. Voodoo Island has the advantage of starring the legendary Boris Karloff who plays a debunker of pseudoscience phenomena. He heads an expedition to a tropical island in the hope of exposing voodoo practices there. The group has a larger motive though. As it's sponsors want to build a resort on the island and they don't want any voodoo cult to interfere with their plans. (movie clip) Unfortunately the voodoo is all too real as are the giant human-eating plants. As groups soon learns veteran actor Elisha Cook also stars and there is a brief appearance by Adam West who went on to play Batman in the popular TV show of the 60's. (movie clip) Despite their low budgets both movies have their share of shocks and scares. Jonathan Drake is more of a creepy quiet thriller. Voodoo island does have some disturbing images and it shows that horror can exist even in a topical island paradise. Both movies are in black and white and are presented in full screen the picture is clean and sharp all the sound is clear and in mono. Extras and crew theatrical trailers.
