I've had the opportunity to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort in Orlando, Florida for the past two vacations at Disney World. I've no doubt that anyone who steps into the magnificent lobby will fall in love with the place just as I have. Authentic African decor abounds. Everywhere you go, you will find hand-made African art. Here are a couple of examples of some of the hand-made artwork that you can actually purchase in the gift shop. -- The African music playing in the background further draws you into the spirit. Now outside, there are over 33 acres of tropical Savannah, with numerous viewing stations, including your own private balcony if you choose the Savannah view. Once you check into your room, you'll receive one of these wildlife field guides and they contain pictures and descriptions of the various animals located in the Savannah. For example, the zebra, the bongo, the giraffe, gazelle, the Abyssinian ground hornbill, the ostrich, pelican, flamingo and many others. Also, be sure to check out some of the special activities that change yearly. You will also receive a sheet with this information. Some of the things they've had in the past include Horticultural activities, culinary tours, cookie decorating, Spirit of African Art tour, African folktales by the fire pit that's located outside, cultural safari and sunset overlook, and animal viewing with night vision. There are a lot of other things that do change seasonally. Rates can be high at the hotel, anywhere from $200 to $500 a night depending on the time of year that you visit and the type of room that you choose. The swimming pool is one of the largest at any Disney World resort. Lot of the kids enjoys the big water slide that empties into the pool. There are also two very large hot tubs. Dining is fabulous at the resort as well. You can eat at the Jiko, you can have a buffet at the Boma, or you can treat yourself to the Mara's fast food style of dining. Of all the Disney World resorts, the Animal Kingdom Lodge should be at the top of your list.
