We found Key West to be the closest thing to the Caribbean without leaving the US. The weather was great (although very hot in August), lots of history, pirate stories, haunted locations, great museums & art galleries, reasonably-priced restaurants, entertainment & of course, great sunsets! I Most of the entertainment options were geared toward adults so I wouldn't recommend it so much for families with small children. My wife & I really loved it and it's a great place to just "chill out".

Hi this is a review of Key West. Now from Miami is less than an hour by plane or about 3 hours if you decide to drive. But some of the locals said that if you do decide to drive it's really a beautiful scenic route but it can become a nightmare if there is any kind of traffic US 1 on your way out there. Um Key West has a beautiful Caribbean-like atmosphere um and you sometimes forget that you'll still in the United States. We stayed at the Sheraton Key West suites which is across the street from Smathers beach. It's about 10-15 from downtown area. The accommodations were roomy very clean. The property was well kept and above all the staffs was very friendly and very very helpful. The hotel provided a free shuttle to the downtown area so no car is needed. Since Key West is the closest US point to the equator the weather is always warm. The average temperatures are around 70 degrees Fahrenheit in a winter and about 89 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. With weather like these there are tons of outdoor activities. Sailing fishing boating parasailing jet skiing beaches. We were a little disappointed however with teh beaches. Smathers was across to the street from our hotel and looked great from a distant but if you get closer to the water we saw that it was filled with seaweeds. It was hard to find a clean spot where you can enter the water. Other beaches that were cleaned were rocky in the bottom and you needed beach or water shoes to walk in the water comfortably. There are a numbers of tours that you can take to see the island. We took the trolley tour and this is a narrated tour which makes about 10 stops at various points on Key West. You can get off of the trolley at whatever stop you like and visit point of interest and stay as long as you like then you can back on the trolley at designated stop and time and continue to the next stop. It s a leisurely way to see the historic points like the Key West lighthouse and the Ernest Hemmingway house and now there are around 40 plus cats living at Hemmingway's house. And if you're lucky you might even see one of the six-toed cats that are direct descendants of the original Ernest Hemmingway cats. If you are in to scary and bizarre stories i recommended the original ghost stores. It's a 90-minute walking tour that starts out near Duval street and takes you into a number of haunted sites each with its own story. It's a lot of fun. Every evening you can participate in the sunset celebration at the Mallory Square The shows are free and the performers are very good. Since most of them depend on tips for their mains source of income please be generous with your gratuities if you like the show. We do a 2-hour sunset sails on one of the Ferry boats beer wine Margaritas or H'orderves live music were all included in the price. It's a nice way to spend the evening and I highly recommend it. Duval Street is the main drive. There are bars and shops and bars and restaurants and bars and bars um you get the idea. Places like Sloppy Joe's and Hog's Breath among others have great live music and some of the best bar food like burgers sandwiches and salads. All the locals we met were very happy living there and more than willing to make recommendations. I'm ready to go what to see and things to do. The lifestyle there are definitely definitely laid back and dress is casual. Shorts and tank tops and sandals were the norm and the attitude is one of openness and acceptance to all orientations. Now although there are somethings for kids to do most of the activities are adult oriented. But if you are looking for a relaxing vacation where you can just chill if you want to and Key West is the place to go. I give it 4.5 out of 5.
