This is a review for this important but simple looking cable. It's an OBD II Cable and what that is is it allows you to interface between your car and your computer and this specific format OBD II is for Volkswagens and Audis. And this one is a serial end so it's not USB which allows you to run it on an older computer or a laptop like I have so it plugs into the serial cable on your computer then you pop up the little plastic cover in your car and plug this end into it and it allows you to interface so that you can do things like clear engine codes. You can see what the engine is doing at any given moment and see if there's a problem and it shows you things -- it depends on the software you're using of course but you can get like a trial software off of the internet that allows you to see all kinds of different things going on in the engine like timing. You can change settings as well and without the cable you wouldn't be able to do any of that. I think that a lot of the companies sell this cable for like $100 or more $150 even. This one is made by JEM Auto and it was purchased for $25.00 the serial cable. The USB one is a bit more. I think it's closer to $35.00 but it's perfect for my application the serial one and it still works perfectly fine. It's approximately six feet long. It's sufficient if you have a laptop in your car or something like that. If you wanted to use it in your garage or something though it wouldn't run from your desktop computer in the garage to your car. You need something longer than that but for a laptop it's perfect. I think overall I'm very satisfied with this. I give it five out of five stars.
