Hi I m Anna and I wanted to take a moment and review for you my Nikon D40X. I bought this camera about two or three months ago and I bought it because I had been starting a photography business and needed to upgrade from my Canon SIS3 which you can check out that review online as well. I really love this camera. It s awesome. I know there s a ton more to it that I could do that I m not currently doing but I m learning and it s a pretty wicked learning curve. But first of all I made the switch the Nikon from Canon. Someone had pointed out the white balance difference to me and being a newbie I didn t really know what I thought about all that but now that I ve made the switch I can really see the difference. I know there are a lot of people who are die-hard Canon fans out there but I m pretty much decided to be a Nikon girl myself. I really really like it. This camera is awesome. Because it s the D40X it has 10.2 megapixels per picture. So what that means in like real people speak is that you can do a tremendous amount of editing post processing on your photos and still have a lot of image to work with like you can go in to Photoshop and crop change things and you still have a ton of information in there. You can blow them up huge. I ve done 10x13 and I know you can do 10x20 because I just ordered one for a customer and even larger than that with this camera so really that s really cool. I did get the kit lens. I kinda have regretted that. I wish I got a little bit better ones but this lens is adequate for now and a new lens is on my list. So I m going to show you a little bit about it. Here s obviously the lens cap. I do have a Hoya lens cover on it just to protect the lens. It s something that I ve always done on cameras with the lens just so that if it drops hopefully just the cover will break and not the actual lens. But if you re dropping your lens you have bigger problems than that on your hands. It s also good though when you work with children like I had a child who kicked sand up while I was taking this picture and it hit my lens cap or my cover and not my actual lens so that was good. As far as like turning this camera on and starting to use it it s really overwhelming so I suggest you go get some help when you re first looking it at it unless you know what you re doing as far as the camera. But you turn the on which is right here and you just turn it to that position. You do have the dial with all your different choices on it aperture priority and action mode and manual mode and shutter speed and all those different things where you can kind of go in and pick which element you want to control or like if you use manual and you can control all of the elements. There s also a macro mode sort of not really. Really the best thing to do is get different lenses for that type of thing. One of the things I love about this is that it has a good internal flash but then it has a location for an external flash which I use all the time. First of all I have a Speedlight that I use that I adore that really allows me to take great pictures anywhere I go so I completely recommend that. And also I have some AlienBees that I can shoot in the studio with and it s really really awesome for that to attach to that. It s different than most digital cameras. Usually when you have a screen on a digital camera you can use the screen as a viewfinder. In this particular camera you cannot do that. It took a little bit of getting used to but I ve always been a big fan of using the eyepiece viewfinder rather than the screen just because you re getting it closer to your head and closer to your body and having a better center of gravity so you re not gonna have any kind of wiggle in it so I think that s really important. It doesn t bother me. It is a little bit distracting though the light coming from the screen the information screen when you re going to take a picture. It s just a little bit hard to see through the viewfinder because that s extremely distracting and kind of bright especially like if you re in an indoor setting like in a wedding or a baptism or something like that. It s just when the room s darker it s a little frustrating. But you have all your information on there about your aperture and your shutter speed and just all the different things you need to know how many exposures you have left and that type of thing and then if that s not enough information you can go in to get more information by clicking on these different buttons so I m not gonna go into all that because it s like a crazy amount of information. But basically that s an information screen and it s also a playback screen which one thing they did on the D40X is they made the screen quite a bit larger than it was on previous Nikon models and I liked that because it s so hard when you re taking pictures and you re excited about them to see okay where are the shadows here? There are so many little things you can t see on a tiny little screen and this is a little bit better that way. But the playback mode is important and you can actually do some editing on the playback mode but I would never do that. I would use it in Photoshop because I m just (inaudible) (0:04:56) like that. But overall it s easy to use once you get used to it. It definitely like I said has a learning curve towards it. I would recommend taking an online class or a college class on how to use it if you re not familiar with that kind of thing. Already it was a huge huge jump for me from my Canon but it was very very worthwhile and I love it. It is pretty lightweight. That s been really important to me. I have carpal tunnel and I didn t feel like I could jump up to something like a D300 or something that was so much heavier than what I was currently working with and even this one weighs a lot more than my Canon did. So it's a great great camera. You ll take tons and tons of fun pictures. Even if you only shoot in auto you re gonna do fantastic so I highly highly recommend it and it s a great starting place I think so that s my review of the Nikon oh before I say that I should show you just a couple of pictures I ve taken with it. These are some indoor pictures I ve taken. It s a picture of my daughter. I did that with the Nikon and the AlienBees and there s a picture of my son and then you just see I don t even know if you can tell but the pictures are super super crisp and beautiful. And here s the one that I enlarged quite large just beautiful beautiful pictures which I know I m in that picture but it was with a remote so that s really a convenient accessory you can get for it. So like I said before I absolutely love this camera and I would highly highly recommend it. Just know that it s gonna take some practice so enjoy.
