Hey there Expo TV this is Tim and today a review of Apple s iPod Touch which is very similar to iPhone except that it s not iPhone. You ve probably heard all about the iPhone and the new iPhone 3G and all the cool stuff it can do and the iPod can do all of that except that you don t have to buy a multi- contract from AT&T. So basically the main difference is the iPod Touch is more expensive because it s not subsidized; but it has a higher capacity in general. There are 16 to 32 gigabytes versions for the iPhone there are only 8 and 16 so it s about twice as big as the iPhone storage. It doesn t have some of the features that the iPhone does that other applications take advantage of. For example the iPhone obviously has a microphone which enables you to talk into it; the iPod Touch does not. It also doesn t have a camera doesn t have a GPS. So the disadvantage is that you re gonna lose with this in terms of features is that for applications that want to use like voice recognition or other voice commands you can t use that. For example there s an awesome iPhone app called Shazam where you run it and it listens to whatever music you re listening to and it will tell you what song it is. It s not gonna work on the iPod Touch because there s no microphone. Anything that uses location-based services which are really big with iPhone are not gonna work here unless you happen to be connected to a WiFi hotspot and it knows where it is which is only gonna happen in a few places in big cities. However these things that don t use that will work fine on iPod Touch so that huge apps store that is being raved about with iPhone 3G most of that s gonna work here. Most games will work. For example there s a free Sudoku game. Lots of free games on iTunes by the way; I ve just loaded this thing up with games. So I just launch Sudoku and it s a nice little Touch application which doesn t show too well here but you can go ahead and start a new game and blah blah blah. It s very nice. If you re a fan of the iPhone but don t want to give up your phone contractor or sort of want to use a different phone the iPod Touch will give you a lot of the same functionality without having to switch phones and providers and whatnot. I m a big fan. It s thinner than the iPhone. Besides that it s pretty much identical; can t really tell the difference from the outside So I m a big fan of the iPod Touch. I would pick one up. They keep changing the capacity and price right now. I believe it is $300 for 8 gigabytes $400 for 16 and $500 for 32 gigabytes. This is a 16 gigabyte model; not that it makes a whole difference except for the capacity. So I highly recommend it if you re on the you know hedge for the iPhone and you still want to use the cool apps there coming out but don t want to make the commitment of a two-year contract and giving up your current phone I think the iPod Touch is a great solution.
